Welcome Aboard!
A few months ago, our office welcomed aboard a new associate, Lia Marks. She is a dedicated legal professional and we are very glad that she has joined our team. Though she has been working hard serving our clients since joining our firm, we would like to formally introduce her now.
Lia Marks was born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1973. She is a 2006 graduate of Vermont Law School. She passed the Vermont Bar in 2006, the California Bar in 2010, and is also admitted to practice in the Northern District of California. She has been an employee of the Law Offices of Cavin and Marks Jr. since 2005, and is readily familiar with the maritime industry. Her practice is focused on personal injury with an emphasis on maritime personal injury. Ms. Marks is a resident of San Francisco, where she enjoys spending time at the beach with her family and her dog.
Question From The Bridge
I was asked to give a written statement following my accident aboard ship. Am I required to do this?
Fred R. San Pedro, CA
Fred,
In most cases a statement should be given or it may appear that you are attempting to hide some fact or information. However, you can give a very brief statement and finish it by saying that a further statement will be forthcoming after you have had more of an opportunity to review the events. Also, you can indicate that a further statement will be given following treatment of your condition as the pain interferes with your present ability to recall all important facts. In any event, do not admit that “it was nobody’s fault” or that the shipowner was not at fault. Leave those conclusions alone.
About Our Law Firm

Today, we are proud to be recognized as one of the preeminent maritime law firms serving injured marine workers nationwide, as well as one of the most successful personal injury litigation firms serving victims of negligence in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the West Coast.
