Are You Wearing The Proper Protective Equipment?

Maritime workers are at high risk for injury if not wearing the proper protective equipment (“PPE”). Goggles, gloves, earplugs and masks make up the majority of the everyday protective gear most commonly used. Needless to say, these items come in a variety of models and qualities but using the proper one is tantamount for your health. As an example, there are numerous types of masks for respiratory protection but each job may require a different level of protection. Be sure and check with your supervisors to make sure you are being outfitted with the proper mask depending upon the nature of the task as there are different levels of protection offered by various models. The same is true of safety gloves. Avoid injury by making sure you are provided with the proper equipment!

Absolutely! And, more importantly, there are only a few models of insulated gel gloves that offer any protection from the vibration of these tools. Make sure you are provided with gloves that are certified or warranted to be adequate for the use of these dangerous tools.
